Ken Harris on the Rye Polar Plunge

Ken Harris helps run the Rye Triathlon Club’s Polar Plunge, a New Year’s Day tradition at Oakland Beach now in its 26th year and started by Ray Kelly. The club, about 120 members strong, has raised close to $200,000 over the years for local causes including Soul Riders and Meals on Main Street. Harris, who coached Jim through his own first triathlons, talked about what a first-timer should expect from the water, and from the sport.

Listen to the full conversation.

“It takes a lot of courage to go in. It’s a bank robbery in your head for a couple of hours before you get in… and then when they get out, they go, my God, that was so great.” — Ken Harris
